The Olympic Opening Night Ceremonies

It was a spectacular opening ceremony indeed without lacking in color, stunts and fireworks.

However, it was also a somber one where the ceremony commemorated a Georgian luge athlete, Nodar Kumaritashvili - who had earlier lost his life whilst in his very first Olympics, lost control on the luge track on his final training run.

I felt touched when the Georgian team walked into the stadium with black armbands. It was disclosed earlier that they had threatened to walk out in protest to the safety standards of the Winter Games venue.

So, I really have to give it to them and the Canadian organizers who stick to the end and sensitively flew the flags at half mast.
